The Tullie Inn

The Tullie Inn sits on Balloch Road next to Balloch railway station, the southern terminus of the West Highland Line and the natural arrival point for guests coming from Glasgow without a car. The inn is now part of the Heritage Pubs estate within the Stonegate Group, and works as both a village inn for Balloch and as a Loch Lomond base for walkers and cruisers.

Thirteen bedrooms run above the lounge bar and restaurant: five superior rooms and eight standard rooms, all ensuite and all carrying the standard inn-room kit (television, hair dryer, tea and coffee tray). One of the standard rooms is configured as a family suite with a double bedroom, an ensuite bathroom and an adjoining twin room for children. The rooms are bright, fresh and tastefully decorated rather than period-detailed, which suits the working-inn function.

The food and drink side runs out of the lounge bar, the restaurant, the conservatory and the patio garden, which operates its own bar and grill through the summer. The menu runs wide rather than narrow: the standard pub-restaurant plates, a price-friendly two-course set menu, a rotating Scottish specials list, Sunday roasts through to four o’clock, and a children’s menu for the family trade. Weekend evenings carry regular entertainment, and the operation has held the Dunbartonshire pub of the year title.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant, either Scottish full or continental, and the lochside walk from the door is the standard recommendation for the first hour after.
