Privacy
The short version: you can read Explore Scotland without signing in, and we don't track you, build a profile on you, or sell anything about you. We only ever hold the details you choose to send us.
Who we are
Explore Scotland is published by West20 Media (we, us, our), a family-run tourism publisher. We are the data controller for the information described here, and you can reach us any time at hello@explore-scotland.com.
What we collect
Almost nothing. There's no account to create and no newsletter sign-up. The only personal information we hold is what you send us directly — if you email us, we have your email address and whatever you write.
How we measure visits
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand roughly how many people visit and which pages are useful. It is privacy-first and cookieless: it sets no cookies, doesn't fingerprint your device, and doesn't follow you across other websites. The figures we see are aggregate — things like total page views, the country a visit came from, and which site referred you — never anything that identifies you.
Links to other sites
Listings sometimes link out to a business's own website or to a booking service. Some of those are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never affects which places we include or what we say about them — more detail is on our affiliate disclosure page. Once you follow a link to another website, that site's own privacy policy applies.
Who else is involved
A few trusted providers help us run the site. They only handle data to provide their service to us, not for their own purposes:
- Cloudflare serves these pages and provides the cookieless analytics above.
- Our website host keeps the site online.
- Our email provider hosts the inbox your message lands in, if you write to us.
Your rights
Under UK data-protection law you can ask to see any information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Email hello@explore-scotland.com and we'll sort it out. If you're ever unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
This site doesn't use tracking cookies. The detail is on our cookies page.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information we'll update this page and the date at the top.
