The Colquhoun Arms sits in the heart of Luss, the conservation village on the western shore of Loch Lomond and one of the better-known stops on the A82. The hotel is part of the village’s traditional row of stone buildings; the bar and restaurant operate as the village pub for locals and as the regular lunch and dinner stop for the high seasonal visitor traffic that runs through Luss.
The bar is well stocked, with the wide selection of malt whiskies that the position carries (Luss sits on the standard Highland tourist-trail bottleneck between the Loch Lomond Distillery to the south and the Speyside houses further north). The menu is pub-restaurant rather than fine-dining: hearty lunches, full-plate dinners, daily-changing specials and locally-sourced produce where the kitchen can secure it.
The position is the operation’s biggest asset. Luss Pier and the Loch Lomond steamer connection sit a five-minute walk from the door; the conservation village itself is one of the most-photographed in Scotland; and the A82 runs through the village so the hotel works as a stopping point for coach-and-car traffic working the length of the loch. Wheelchair access covers the public areas and ample parking is on the village pay-and-display, with the hotel’s own off-street provision in the rear yard.
Bookings by phone on 01436 860282, or via the Colquhoun Arms website. Luss, Loch Lomond, Argyll. Open all year.
