Blue Lagoon Fish & Chips runs the takeaway and sit-in chip-shop operation at 40 Balloch Road in the centre of the village, the site the Palombo family ran as Palombos of Balloch for over forty years before the Blue Lagoon group took it on in 2021. Blue Lagoon is itself a family story: the Varese family opened the first shop on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street in 1975 and the business is now in its third generation, with branches across the west of Scotland. The Balloch shop keeps its place as the village’s standard chip-shop stop for residents, walkers and the steady Loch Lomond visitor trade.

The fryer menu is the operational core: fish and chips cooked to order, with sustainable fish species sourced rather than the cheaper-but-questionable lines. The sit-in restaurant side widens the offer past the takeaway counter with soups, baked potatoes with various fillings, filled rolls and hot drinks alongside the fryer plates. Vegetarian and gluten-free diets are catered for as standard, and the wider Blue Lagoon menu brings the group’s pizza and burger lines alongside the traditional chippy range.

The position is the practical draw. Loch Lomond Pier and the loch cruises are a short walk away, Balloch railway station is two minutes up the road, and the shop sits on the natural walking route between the station, the village pubs and Loch Lomond Shores. A chip supper carried down to the pier as the evening boats come in is the simple version of a Balloch evening.

Open seven days. Menus, hours and contact via the Blue Lagoon website. 40 Balloch Road, Balloch, G83 8LE.
