The Inn on Loch Lomond, the roadside inn long known as the Inn at Inverbeg, sits on the A82 at Inverbeg, two miles north of Luss on the western shore of Loch Lomond. The original inn was built in 1804 as the epitome of a roadside establishment, with horse-drawn traffic trundling along six feet from the front door; the old road is now the hotel’s terrace, and the A82 has retreated down the hill towards the loch shore. The inn was rebuilt and re-opened in summer 2008 with four-star Inn status, and is family owned and run.

Rooms run across the main inn building above the bar and the dining room, plus a separate run of beach-house rooms on the loch shore at the back of the property. The Inn rooms are styled in the contemporary-coaching-inn shape with timber detail, modern fittings and Loch Lomond views from the south-facing units; the beach houses are a quieter option with the loch off the door. The position is unmissable from the road: the Inn is set back imposingly from the A82 with its run of flagpoles signalling the entrance.

Mr C’s Fish and Whisky Bar and Restaurant is the food and drink side. The kitchen runs a west-coast fish menu with a particular line in a generous fish tea plate built around the daily catch, and the wider card carries the expected pub-restaurant lunch and dinner plates with Scottish-produce sourcing, seven days through lunch and dinner. The whisky bar carries around two hundred Scottish bottlings drawing on the smaller Highland and Speyside houses, the cask-ale lines hold CAMRA recognition, and traditional live folk music plays at weekends, March to November.

Bookings by phone on 01436 860430, by email to res@innonlochlomond.co.uk, or via the Inn on Loch Lomond website. The inn is set back on the A82 at Inverbeg, G83 8PD. Open all year.
