The Hill House is an architectural gem, where unique interiors meet conservation and architectural design innovation.

Glasgow publisher Walter Blackie commissioned celebrated architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh to design a functional family home. Along with his wife Margaret Macdonald, Mackintosh designed almost everything you can see at the Hill House, from the building itself to the furniture and textiles.

In 2018 we embarked on a 10-year conservation programme, and stage one (the ‘Box’) opened to visitors in 2019. The protective steel frame structure covered in a chainmail mesh was designed by award-winning architects Carmody Groake and features walkways around and over the top of the house.
