Sands Caravan and Camping

Sands Caravan and Camping is the established beachside park at Big Sand, two miles north of Gairloch by the B8021. The setting is straightforward, pitches and pods run along the level ground behind the dunes, with the long pale-sand beach at Big Sand directly accessible through marram-grass paths from the campsite. The beach itself is one of the longer in Wester Ross, a mile of pale sand and shingle backed by low dunes, looking out toward Longa Island and the Cuillin of Skye on the southern horizon.

The pitch mix covers the working family-park range, caravan and motorhome pitches on hard standings with hook-ups at the rear of the site, tent pitches on the grass terrace closer to the beach, glamping pods at the upper end of the field. A service block handles toilets, showers and a small laundry; a seasonal café-and-shop at the entrance carries the standard small-site supply range.

Sands sits in the small cluster of camping operations along the B8021, Gairloch Holiday Park is the neighbouring large site on the same beach, and the two operate in parallel along the same stretch of coast. The road north past Sands carries on to Melvaig and the road-end at Rua Reidh, with the lighthouse and the long approach making a half-day from the site.
