The Gairloch Hotel

The Gairloch Hotel is the long-established landmark hotel above Gairloch Bay, set back from the A832 on the rising ground at the centre of the village. The building’s bulk is part of the local skyline, a Victorian-built tourist hotel from the era when Highland tourism was new and the railway was extending into the west, and the position takes advantage of the slope: the front-facing rooms look down over the bay, the harbour and the long sweep of sand south toward Strath, with the Skye horizon visible on clear days.

Gairloch itself sits at the head of its bay where the Strath River meets the sea. The village is laid out as a cluster of small settlements, Charlestown at the south end (the working harbour and the older centre), Strath at the river mouth (the planned-grid Victorian extension), and Achtercairn higher up the hill (the museum, the school and the Gale Centre). The hotel anchors the Strath end of the village and is a five-minute walk down to the beach or up to the museum.

The accommodation is the standard large-Highland-hotel pattern, sea-view and rear rooms across multiple floors, restaurant, public bar, conference and function space. The kitchen leans on the working west-coast supply: Loch Gairloch shellfish, Highland beef and lamb, the standard seasonal restaurant register.
