Gairloch Farmshop

Gairloch Farmshop sits at Achadesdale on the back road between Gairloch and the head of Loch Maree, in the cluster of crofts that make up the hinterland of the village. The shop is part of a working croft rather than a retail operation grafted onto someone else’s farm, the meat counter draws on the croft’s own sheep and Highland-reared beef, alongside game from local estates, and the back-of-house bakery and prepared-food sections turn over through the day.

The retail range covers the working farmshop pattern: butcher’s counter (lamb, beef, Highland venison and game in season, plus the usual pork and chicken), a small dairy and egg section sourced locally, baking from the on-site kitchen (loaves, scones, traybakes, pies and savouries), and a working preserves shelf with the standard Highland small-batch range. Some of the area’s hotels and B&Bs pick up here on supply rounds; the shop also handles direct retail to passing trade and the local Gairloch catchment.

Achadesdale is two miles back from the seafront along the B8021 toward Big Sand, and the farmshop is a short detour off the road for visitors based in the village or staying further west toward Melvaig and Red Point. The crofting setting is the operation’s main draw: visitors see a working operation rather than a retail front, which puts it in a different category from the typical Highland “farmshop” gift-and-jam emporium.
