The Seaforth Restaurant & Chippy

The Seaforth is the harbour-front fish restaurant and chippy on Quay Street, two doors along from the CalMac ferry terminal at the head of Loch Broom. The building carries three working parts under the one name, the takeaway fish-and-chip counter at street level, the fishbar with the longer seafood menu in the main dining room behind it, and the upstairs bar overlooking the harbour. The harbour-front position means the listing turns over from the same passing trade as the ferry: queues from the morning Stornoway sailing, lunchtime tourist traffic, evening trade from the local Ullapool catchment.

The kitchen leans on the working fishing fleet that lands at Ullapool itself, west-coast haddock and cod for the fryer, Loch Broom langoustines and crab off the local creels, monkfish, brown crab and lobster from the Coigach and Summer Isles boats. The fish-and-chips operation is the higher-volume side of the business and runs at standard local prices; the fishbar menu carries the longer cooking pattern (whole grilled lemon sole, langoustine, shellfish platters) and pulls a more attentive trade.

The Seaforth is one of the long-standing names in Ullapool eating-out, it has been a working harbour-front operation across decades, with a turnover of operators and refurbishments but the same building and broadly the same role. The dining room books up reliably in summer, particularly around the ferry timetable.
