Tobermory Stores

Tobermory Stores is the independent delicatessen-grocer at 60 Main Street, on the painted-buildings row that defines Tobermory and that the town is best known for. The shop runs as the practical food anchor on the front: a place to put together a lunch, a holiday-let weekly shop or a single Mull-cheese-and-shortbread parcel for the ferry home.

The Mull-and-Hebrides shelf is the part most visitors come for. Isle of Mull Cheese in cloth-bound wheels, Tobermory smoked meats and salmon when available, Stornoway Black Pudding from Lewis, Mull-produced biscuits and shortbread, the Hebridean preserves and chutneys that have built up a small specialty industry across the islands. Beyond that the shop carries heritage Scottish and British family brands alongside organic, fairtrade, vegan and gluten-free ranges that visitors with dietary requirements may struggle to find elsewhere on Mull.

The takeaway side runs through the day. Filled breakfast rolls in the morning, sandwiches and salad boxes made to order through lunchtime, deli boxes and packed lunches for visitors heading off on a day’s walking or a boat trip out to Staffa. Coffee, cakes and the snack range fill the gaps. The harbour wall is fifty paces away with benches along it, which makes Tobermory Stores plus a bench plus a view of the boats one of the more reliable ways to eat lunch on the island.

The hours run early-to-late through the season: seven in the morning to nine at night, Monday through Saturday, with reduced Sunday hours.
