Hooked is a fish and chip shop on Main Street in Tobermory, the seafront row of painted houses that the town is best known for. The shop is one of the practical anchors of the street, alongside the bakery, the pharmacy, the grocers and the chandlery, and serves the working population of the town as much as the summer visitors crowding the harbour wall in the evenings.
The offer is the conventional Scottish chippy range: battered haddock, scampi and pies cooked to order, chips made from potato peeled in-house, the usual list of sausages and burgers, and the seasonal additions of squid, langoustines and other catch off the island boats when it lands. A chip supper eaten on the harbour wall watching the CalMac come in from Kilchoan is the simple version of an evening on Mull and Hooked is where most of those suppers come from.
The shop is small and the queue moves at the pace of a fresh-cooked kitchen; allow fifteen or twenty minutes through the summer. There’s no sit-in. The harbour wall is twenty paces away with benches along it.
Open lunchtimes and evenings through the main season; reduced hours in winter. Latest hours and the day’s specials on the Hooked Fish & Chips Facebook page.
