The Spar Shop and Post Office at Salen is the village’s working anchor. The shop is the practical mid-island stop on the A848 between Craignure ferry and Tobermory. Salen is the meeting point where the cross-island road from the Fionnphort and Iona ferry route at the south joins the main route up to the harbour, which makes the shop’s till the busy point of an otherwise small settlement.
The shop runs as a standard Spar franchise with the usual range (fresh and frozen, the bakery rolls, the basics) and the Post Office counter at the back. The PO carries the cash and parcel work that keeps Salen functional through the year, including the standard rural-PO services for crofters and small businesses across this part of Mull.
The hours are longer than most of the other shops in the centre of the island, which makes Salen the late-arrival or early-departure stop for visitors who have missed Tobermory’s shops or are about to. There is parking on the road outside and across the road by the church.
