Glenuig Inn

The Glenuig Inn sits at the head of Glenuig Bay on the Sound of Arisaig, Moidart’s quiet stretch of mainland coast, west of Lochailort on the A861 and east of Acharacle. The inn has the reputation in the area for music and for the lengths it has gone to on the sustainability side: an early biomass heating retrofit, low-impact build choices on the more recent extension, and a long-standing house preference for working with low-mileage suppliers off the Highland west coast. In October 2025 the inn passed into community ownership, a local Community Benefit Society completed the buyout on 28 October 2025, putting the building into the hands of the village.

The setting is the second draw. Glenuig Bay opens onto the Sound of Arisaig, and the inn faces the bay across a short stretch of grass and shingle. Sea kayakers launch from the shore for circuits of Loch Ailort and the islands of the Sound; walkers come off the longer paths through Moidart and over Beinn Odhar Bheag (about 870 m, a Corbett with one of the best summit views on the west coast). The shore walk west around to Samalaman and the road to Loch nan Uamh, where Bonnie Prince Charlie sailed from in 1746, marking the end of the Jacobite Rising, is a quiet half-day from the inn’s door.

Rooms, bar and restaurant; the bar carries a working music programme through the year and the restaurant leans on west-coast seafood and Highland-reared meat in season. The road in is the A861 from either direction, single-track on the Acharacle stretch.
