China Restaurant

The China Restaurant sits on a narrow stretch of Stafford Street in central Oban, a short block in from the Esplanade and the harbour. The kitchen runs the broad classic-Chinese repertoire (Szechuan chicken, lemon chicken, sweet and sour pork, chow mein) and stretches across into a small Thai section and a local-seafood twist using what comes in off Oban’s boats. Vegetarian and vegan options run alongside the meat menu, including an unusually wide vegan “chicken” page.

Dine-in seats are limited and the takeaway side runs through the evening; delivery is available within Oban’s compact town footprint. Lunch and dinner service through the week, with longer Friday and Saturday openings to catch the post-Distillery, post-ferry crowd.

Oban’s centre has a small but dense restaurant strip running Stafford Street, George Street and the waterfront, and the China Restaurant is the long-running Chinese-cuisine member of that strip rather than a special-occasion destination. It has been on Stafford Street for years (Tripadvisor reviews stretch back over a decade) and works in the practical role of a midweek dinner that is not tied to seafood, scampi or pub fare.
