The Sheiling is a family-run guest house on Garve Road at the southern entrance to Ullapool, the row of houses set back from the A835 as the road drops down off the moor and into the village. The position carries the practical advantage of a sea view (Garve Road runs along the rising ground above Loch Broom) without the harbour-front bustle of the central village. The CalMac ferry terminal is fifteen minutes’ walk down the road; the harbour pubs, restaurants and shops are slightly closer.
The accommodation is the standard small-guest-house pattern, five or six en-suite rooms across two floors, a residents’ lounge with the loch view, and a breakfast room with table service in the morning. The cooked breakfast covers the usual range plus a kipper option (the kippers come from local Ullapool smokehouses, which is the kind of detail that puts a guest-house above a hotel breakfast for travellers who care).
Garve Road is the A835 approach into Ullapool from Inverness, which puts the Sheiling a fifteen-minute drive from the start of the Coigach turn-off at Drumrunie and a half-hour from the Achiltibuie peninsula proper. A workable base for visitors using Ullapool for ferry, harbour or Summer Isles trips.
