Tralee Bay Holidays

The site sits on the south shore of Tralee Bay, the broad shallow bay on the Benderloch peninsula about eight miles north of Oban. The beach is the draw: a crescent of pale shell sand running for the best part of a mile, sheltered by the small island of Eilean Dubh at the mouth of the bay and looking west toward Lismore. The water at low tide pulls back a long way, leaving warm pools on the upper sands that work for paddling and small children; at high tide the bay is deep enough for a swim if you’re game for the temperature.

The Caledonia Way long-distance cycle and walking route runs along the road behind the site, with Connel four miles south and Port Appin nine miles north, both reachable on bike via the route. Benderloch village has a small shop and a post office. The wider peninsula carries a scattering of small attractions: the Sea Life Sanctuary at Barcaldine on Loch Creran, Castle Stalker (the offshore tower-house on its own islet) further north at Port Appin, and Lismore reachable by passenger ferry from the Port Appin pier.

Lodges and caravans both. The site stays open through most of the year, with the caravans seasonal and the lodges year-round; specifics drift, so check ahead.
