The Bellachroy is at the head of the road that runs north from Tobermory toward Dervaig and on to Calgary Bay. The inn is reckoned to date from 1608, which would make it among the oldest licensed premises on Mull; the 1608 figure is the one carried in local histories and the inn’s own materials, and while precise founding dates for buildings of this age tend to drift, the period (early 17th century) is consistent with the inn’s role as a drovers’ stop on the cattle route from northern Mull down to the Craignure crossing on the way to Oban tryst.

Dervaig itself was laid out in 1799 by the local landowner Maclean of Coll as a planned village, the row of single-storey crofters’ cottages along the road remains the village’s distinctive shape. The Old Byre Heritage Centre is up the hill behind the village; Mull Theatre’s predecessor (the Mull Little Theatre) opened in Dervaig in 1966, billing itself as the smallest professional theatre in the world.

The Bellachroy works as both a working village pub and an inn, bar at the front, restaurant alongside, a handful of rooms upstairs. The kitchen leans on local seafood, Mull-reared meat and the usual pub-classic backbone. The bar carries a small range of Scottish ales and a longer whisky list, with several of Mull’s own bottlings (Tobermory and Ledaig from the Tobermory distillery) usually represented.

We offer six comfortable en suite rooms each with DAB Radio, Wi Fi, and tea and coffee facilities. With a variety of room sizes we can happily accommodate individuals and couples. This cosy traditional inn has a quirky layout due to it’s age and many alterations with the passage of time. To help our guests relax, our rooms do not come with televisions. We find it helps everyone enjoy the quiet nature of our inn and it’s surroundings.

Our popular restaurant serves good quality food using local produce wherever possible. At the Bellachroy, you can sample a range of home-made Scottish dishes, we also have a daily specials board.

In addition to your room and the hotel’s bar and restaurant, you will also have access to our residents’ lounge. Here, you can read, play board games, plan your holiday or just relax after a long day in the fresh air.

A full Scottish cooked breakfast is served along with a vegetarian option including a choice of porridge, yoghurt and fruit.  Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs are also offered.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your stay with us as enjoyable as possible. (strictly one dog per room for those guests bringing their canine family member to stay in the hotel- additional fees apply).
