Harbour Garage Tobermory

Harbour Garage is the fuel-and-service station on the Tobermory harbourfront, on the row of working buildings that runs along the south side of the harbour past the Mull Aquarium and the lifeboat shed. Known to older hands as Mackay’s, the garage is the principal place to fuel up on Mull, the second of two fuelling options on the north of the island and the one with the easier turning for a vehicle leaving a packed Tobermory in summer. The pumps keep garage hours rather than running round the clock, so plan the fill-up for the working day.

The fuel side covers petrol and diesel; the workshop side runs MOT testing, servicing and repairs across cars and commercial vehicles, which matters on Mull where a breakdown at the wrong end of the island can mean a delay measured in days rather than hours. The reputation across the local trade is for steady, no-nonsense workmanship, which is the kind of recommendation that does not come easily from a fishing crew or a haulier.

Car and van hire is run from the same site. Mull has limited rental capacity through the high season, so booking ahead is essential from May through September; the cars and the long-wheelbase vans go first.

The shop carries the standard car-supply range: oils, lubricants, car shampoo, wax, tar remover and the consumables that drivers running coastal single-track tend to need.
